No Blocklists or Blocking 0 IPs

Recently when I was surfing through the forum of PhoenixLabs, I found several users were panicked by a strange problem. According to them, PeerGuardian2 was not blocking even a single IP and all the lists were empty too. At first i thought it was a standalone case but then i found that the numbers of posts were increasing exponentially. Well if your PeerGuardian is also having the same problem and you haven't found a solution till now then you could do the following:

1. Run your PeerGuardian.
2. Click on "List Manager".
3. When the List Manager pops up click on "Add" Button (Look at the bottom).
4. Click on "Add URL" radio button and from the Drop down List select
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz
5. In Description field type BluetackLev1 (it can be anything).
6. Before clicking OK make sure that the Block button is selected.
Repeat Steps 2 -6 and add the following Lists. Give a new Description each time.
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level2.gz
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/proxy.gz
Now it will Block near about 1095048929 IPs.
Well friends, this steps will increase your safety to a good extent.

Can you explain what's the difference between the three lists you're telling I should suscribe?

Thx
Alex

By the way, keep up the good work.
This site is already in my favourites, keep us updated.
Thx, Alex

Thanx Alex.
Level 1 -> Basic Blocklist
Level 2 -> Corporate Ranges
Its better to add both the files. This will give you a greater security.

thanks, something is wrong with the "official" update URIs (they keep returning 32b 7z files without any IPs)...

Is this updatesfix updated as the official iplist?

PeerGuardian default Lists are the Bluetack Lists. Both are same. Use either one of them.

I have had the same issue. I have followed the instructions but keep getting Error Contacting URL for the Level 1 and Level 2 list. Any ideas.

Thanks

According to a post here; http://forums.phoenixlabs.org/showthread.php?p=111478

the gov list was merged with the level1/P2P list
a separate gov list is no longer distributed.

What I'm wondering is what is the: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/proxy.gz because I don't even see this one in the drop down list???? Anyone??

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/proxy.gz is a new list available, the Proxy List, which blocks Tor and other open proxies. This list was added by Bluetack on February this year. Since PeerGuardian 2 was last updated in 2005, Proxy List is not available in it.

You can read more on the Bluetack site.

actually..which one should i use? the bluetack or the peerguardian ones?

You have to use the Bluetack list for some time now, as the default PeerGuardian Lists are not working. Once they are fixed you can always switch back to the default List or continue using the Bluetack list. There are no difference between these 2 lists. They are completely identical! ;)

does anybody know if peer guardian2 will work properly with windows vista

Yes I am running PeerGuardian 2 with Vista.... only issue is that Vista considers it a dubious program and blocks on boot. Have to override.
Otherwise rock solid.

This happens to me once every 3-4 weeks. Can usually find a way around it but have given up today.

Thanks for the alternate lists.

I must be a fool - I can't seem to get this to work - when my list manager opens, I count THREE different "add" buttons, one to add new list all the way on the left bottom, one to add addresses in the middle bottom, and one next to URLs up at the top. Clicking the + next to "Choose File" , as I'm assuming this post is advising, does NOTHING. In the drop down URL menu, there is NOTHING. I think this post needs a little clarification.

These files don't exist anymore.
