Installing PeerGuardian 2

Installing PeerGuardian2 is very Simple and Easy.

1. Click on the "Next" button.


2. Select "I accept the agreement". You must agree to continue.


3. Now select the Folder where you want to install PeerGuardian 2.


4. Click Next to continue.


5. Click Install when you are ready to install.


6.Please wait while Setup installs PeerGuardian on your Computer.


7. Select "Launch PeerGuardian". Click Finish to Exit setup.


Running PeerGuardian 2 For The First Time

1. Click Next on the following screen:


2. Select the Lists you want to Block:


3. See the following screen:


4. Everything is now complete. Click Finish to Exit:

PeerGuardian should only be downloaded directly from http://phoenixlabs.org. Third party web sites may repackage or modify PeerGuardian software to include viruses or spyware.

Check your software version
The latest release is PeerGuardian 2.0 Beta 6b (09/18/2005). If you have a later version it is fake and your privacy may be compromised.

Stopping Balloon Tips While Starting PeerGuardian

Are you tired of the Ballon Tips that Pops up each time you start PeerGuardian ?

If yes, then here is a simple solution.
1. Open C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2 (or the directory where you have installed PeerGuardian).
2. Now find the file 'pg2.conf' (Sans Quote).
3. Open it with Wordpad or any other Text Editor e.g Notepad, etc.
4. Find these lines

<Messages>
<firstblock>yes</firstblock>
<firsthide>yes</firsthide>
<genuine>no</genuine>
</Messages>

5. Now change the last line <genuine>no</genuine>" to "<genuine>yes</genuine>"
i.e. Simply replace the no with yes. Do not change anything else.

6. Save the File and Exit.
Bingo! PeerGuardian wont bother you with the Genuine Ballon Tip any more.

No Blocklists or Blocking 0 IPs

Recently when I was surfing through the forum of PhoenixLabs, I found several users were panicked by a strange problem. According to them, PeerGuardian2 was not blocking even a single IP and all the lists were empty too. At first i thought it was a standalone case but then i found that the numbers of posts were increasing exponentially. Well if your PeerGuardian is also having the same problem and you haven't found a solution till now then you could do the following:

1. Run your PeerGuardian.
2. Click on "List Manager".
3. When the List Manager pops up click on "Add" Button (Look at the bottom).
4. Click on "Add URL" radio button and from the Drop down List select
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz
5. In Description field type BluetackLev1 (it can be anything).
6. Before clicking OK make sure that the Block button is selected.
Repeat Steps 2 -6 and add the following Lists. Give a new Description each time.
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level2.gz
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/proxy.gz
Now it will Block near about 1095048929 IPs.
Well friends, this steps will increase your safety to a good extent.
